Louvre Abu Dhabi
The Louvre Abu Dhabi is the first universal museum in the Arab world, established under an intergovernmental agreement between France and the United Arab Emirates. It presents a diverse collection of ancient and contemporary works with historical, cultural, and sociological significance from around the world.
Jean Nouvel, the Pritzker Architecture Prize winner selected to design the museum, was inspired by the special features of the Saadiyat site: a virgin lagoon island, between sand and sea, shade and light. The museum's permanent collection comprises some 700 artworks and groups of artworks from every period and civilisation (from prehistoric times to the present day). Another 300 works are loans from partner museums (the Louvre lends 100 different masterpieces every year).
The Louvre Abu Dhabi's unique exhibition design explores the connections between civilisations and cultures that might at first seem to be far apart in time and geography. Visitors are guided through a chronological and theme-based display traversing different periods and civilisations.
Manarat Al Saadiyat
Manarat Al Saadiyat, established in 2009 as an exhibition center, has evolved into a vibrant community hub contributing to Abu Dhabi's arts scene. Through curated exhibitions, film screenings, performances, workshops, and studio spaces, the center actively engages with the community and explores contemporary concepts and ideas for all ages.
At the heart of Manarat Al Saadiyat lies urbanity and popular culture, with a focus on photography and multimedia. Its ongoing programs cover film, music, animation, gaming, photography, and media, while providing opportunities for creative expression and innovation through art workshops for both children and adults.
The center houses the Photography Studio, Art Studio, and three galleries for temporary exhibitions. It features an outdoor events terrace, a cafe, a brasserie, a 250-seat auditorium, and a 100-seat theater space. As part of the Saadiyat Cultural District, Manarat Al Saadiyat serves as a gateway to Louvre Abu Dhabi, the future Zayed National Museum, and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. It is also the primary location for Abu Dhabi Art and the Culture Summit.
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum
Situated in the Saadiyat Cultural District, the future Guggenheim Abu Dhabi museum is a collaborative effort between the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The museum program will feature collection displays, special exhibitions, commissions, research, and publications, shedding light on global histories of modern and contemporary art.
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi aims to become the region's leading museum of global modern and contemporary art, offering insights into the interconnected histories and cultures that have influenced the art world. The museum's collection focuses on West Asia, North Africa, and South Asia (WANASA), exploring points of intersection, transcultural exchange, and distinctive artistic achievements.
Spanning art from around 1960, the collection includes over 600 works representing various media, generations of artists, and a diverse range of countries and regions, with a dedicated emphasis on the Gulf and WANASA.
Sheikh Zayed Palace Museum
The Zayed National Museum, situated in the heart of Abu Dhabi's Saadiyat Cultural District, pays tribute to the UAE's history, culture, and stories, as well as the enduring values of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the nation's founder. His legacy continues to serve as a guiding light for the country and its people.
The museum showcases various rooms, including an art gallery, modeled after the traditional majlis, which serves as a meeting room for receiving visitors. It features a replica grand court tent in one of the courts, symbolizing a connection with Bedouin life. Additionally, there is a Land Rover resembling the one driven by Sheikh Zayed in the desert to visit Bedouin communities. Just behind the museum lies the Al Ain Oasis, accessible through a nearby entrance, with a path leading to the Al Ain National Museum.
